PAnother shocking death has rocked Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), after a physically disabled male patient was found dead under unclear circumstances in Ward Seven earlier today.

The hospital management has since confirmed the incident, which now marks the second mysterious patient death at Kenya’s largest referral facility this year.

According to preliminary information from hospital officials and law enforcement sources, the body was discovered on the patient’s hospital bed by a nurse making routine rounds. Witnesses at the scene stated that the man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, had limited mobility and required assistance for basic functions.

Security agencies, including a homicide unit from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), have since pitched camp at the hospital. Crime scene experts have cordoned off the ward as they comb through surveillance footage, question medical staff, and examine forensic evidence in a bid to piece together the final moments of the victim.

“We are treating this as a potential homicide until investigations prove otherwise,” a senior detective at the scene told Channel 15 News on condition of anonymity.

This incident has reignited fears and outrage among the public, as it follows a grisly murder on February 7, 2025, when another patient at KNH was found dead with a slit throat in a different ward — a case that remains unsolved to date.

Calls are growing for the Ministry of Health and the hospital’s board to urgently overhaul internal security systems and conduct an independent inquiry into the safety of inpatients at the national facility.

Kenyans online are demanding answers, with the hashtag #JusticeForKNHPatients trending on X (formerly Twitter) as critics accuse the hospital of failing in its duty of care.

Kenyatta National Hospital has yet to release a detailed statement regarding today’s incident, but promised to cooperate fully with investigators.

    This is a developing story.
