Kenya’s milk production has risen from 4.5 billion litres in 2022 to 5.6 billion litres, Livestock Development Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke has said, citing growth in the sector and expanding meat exports as opportunities to boost farmers’ incomes.
Mueke credited farmers for their contribution to food security and economic growth, saying their efforts were driving progress in the livestock industry.

“I salute our farmers for their hard work, resilience and commitment to feeding our nation and growing our economy,” he said.
He also thanked President William Ruto for his continued support for the transformation of the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Mueke spoke following the conclusion of the three-day Agriculture and Food Systems Summit, where stakeholders renewed their commitment to building a more productive sector that strengthens food security and delivers better returns to farmers.

He said increased production must translate into higher incomes and expanded market opportunities for farmers, who remain central to the country’s agricultural transformation.
The expansion of meat exports, he added, presents further opportunities for livestock producers and the wider economy.
