Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is currently being arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Courts following his arrest earlier today by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Governor Natembeya was taken into custody in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities within the Trans Nzoia County Government amounting to KSh 1.4 billion. The alleged misappropriation is tied to irregular procurement processes and fictitious payments made during the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.

His arrest follows a dramatic morning raid at his residence and office, where EACC officers, acting on valid court-issued search warrants, faced violent resistance from a hostile mob. The attackers reportedly overpowered police officers guarding the operation, vandalized five EACC vehicles, and stole critical items and evidence seized during the raid.

Initial findings by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) suggest the attack was a coordinated effort aimed at obstructing justice and derailing the anti-corruption operation.

Governor Natembeya’s court appearance marks a major escalation in the high-profile investigation. EACC and DCI officials have vowed to ensure that all those involved—both in the financial scandal and in the violent obstruction—will face the full force of the law.
