The National Liberal Party (NLP) has unveiled Mutisya Wa Ngai as its candidate for the Mumbuni North Ward by-election set for 27 November 2025, in a move the party describes as a declaration of its commitment to principled and visionary leadership.
The ward seat fell vacant following the death of former MCA Gideon Nzomo in August 2023, paving the way for what has now become one of the most competitive political races in Machakos County.

The unveiling ceremony, held on Sunday in Mumbuni and led by NLP Chairman Mr Teddy Kenyatta, was attended by party members and enthusiastic supporters. Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News on phone, NLP Party Leader Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli told said that the nomination of Mutisya Wa Ngai symbolized more than just a contest.
“Today, the National Liberal Party unveiled Hon. Mutisya Wa Ngai as our candidate for Mumbuni North. This is more than a contest — it is a declaration of our commitment to nurturing principled, humble, and visionary leaders devoted to service,” Dr Muli said, adding that NLP’s deep grassroots networks in Machakos and across Lower Eastern will play a decisive role in the upcoming poll.

The Mumbuni North race is attracting heavyweights from across the political spectrum. Wiper Party has fronted Anthony Kisoi, determined to reaffirm its dominance in Machakos politics. UDA, riding on its status as the ruling party, has fielded Misi Mutua, banking on its promise of aligning the ward with national development priorities. At the same time, Maendeleo Chap Chap has settled on Harrison Wambua, while Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) is betting on retired assistant chief Richard Nzioka alias Mbolu. Independent candidate Naomi Nzioki and Nzomo Muli of the GDDP have also joined the fray, making the contest a true test of party strength and individual appeal.
Analysts now view the race as a fierce battleground between three main forces — Wiper, UDA, and NLP. Wiper seeks to protect its traditional base, UDA hopes to break new ground in Machakos, and NLP is positioning itself as the fresh alternative rooted in community trust and integrity.
For NLP, the unveiling of Mutisya Wa Ngai also comes at a time when the party is expanding its footprint, opening more branches in Lower Eastern and across the country. The outcome of this by-election, therefore, will not only determine who represents Mumbuni North but also serve as an indicator of the shifting political tides ahead of the 2027 general elections.
