Safaricom Group Chief Risk Officer Nicholas Mulila has challenged leaders across the country to prioritize development projects that directly improve the lives of citizens, saying education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming communities.
Mulila spoke during the commissioning of a Sh40 million modern classroom and administration complex at Kithumuoni Comprehensive School in Mumoni Ward, Mwingi North Constituency, a project funded by the Safaricom Foundation and M-Pesa Foundation.
The new facility, comprising classrooms and administration offices, is expected to improve learning conditions for hundreds of pupils in an area that has for years struggled with inadequate educational infrastructure.

Speaking at the event, Mulila reaffirmed the foundations’ commitment to supporting education through strategic investments in school infrastructure across Kenya.
“Education is the greatest equaliser in society. As an organisation, we are committed to building communities by investing in schools. We are creating a better learning environment for these young learners and helping shape a brighter future for them,” said Mulila.
He called on parents, teachers and community members to protect and properly utilize the facilities to ensure they continue benefiting future generations.
“Once construction is complete, these facilities are handed over to the community. The best way to appreciate this investment is by ensuring our children utilise these resources effectively and remain focused on their education,” he added.
Mulila also used the occasion to urge national and county leaders, including those seeking elective positions, to focus on projects that bring tangible benefits to wananchi.
“Wherever you serve, remember the people who elected you. Champion development initiatives that uplift communities and improve their living standards,” he said.
The Safaricom executive noted that beyond education, the company is expanding communication infrastructure in remote parts of Kitui County through the installation of network boosters aimed at improving connectivity and access to communication services.
The Sh40 million project is expected to boost enrolment, improve academic performance and provide a conducive learning environment for learners in the region.
For many residents, the investment represents more than just new buildingsāit is a symbol of hope and a reminder of the impact partnerships between the private sector and local communities can have in addressing long-standing development challenges.
