Who is Bishop-Elect Jackson Murugara?
Born in 1970 in Kamanyaki, Tharaka Nithi County, Fr. Murugara’s story is one of devotion, humility, and unwavering faith. The fifth-born in a family of ten, he embarked on his religious journey at Muthitwa Primary School, followed by Mitiri Boys’ School and St. Pius X Minor Seminary in Nkubu, Meru. His thirst for knowledge and spirituality led him to the Consolata Philosophicum and the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, where he earned his degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies.

His spiritual commitment deepened when he undertook his novitiate at Sagana (1996-1997), culminating in his first religious vows in 1997. From 1997 to 2001, he studied Theology at the Missionary Institute of London, an institution affiliated with Middlesex University. His final religious profession on November 18, 2000, and subsequent ordination to the diaconate the next day, paved the way for his priestly ordination on August 15, 2001, at Matiri Parish, Diocese of Meru.
A Journey of Dedication and Service
Fr. Murugara’s pastoral mission has been nothing short of extraordinary. He served in multiple parishes, including:
Kagaene Parish (2001-2002)
Mujwa Parish (2002)
Chiga Parish in Kisumu Archdiocese (2002-2003)
In 2003, he took on a crucial role as a formator for postulants at the Consolata Seminary, nurturing young seminarians for six years. His academic pursuits saw him earn a Licentiate in Spirituality from Teresianum University in Rome (2009-2011), graduating with first-class honors.
Between 2011 and 2018, he dedicated himself to Christian formation, retreats, and charity work at Bethany House in Sagana, where he managed a Charity Home for Aged Women. His most recent posting has been at the renowned Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi, where his pastoral leadership and spiritual guidance have left an indelible mark.
