The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has lost a Sh1 billion court battle in a dispute over a contract involving the supply of HIV drugs, dealing a significant blow to the State agency tasked with managing the country’s medical commodities. The High Court ordered that Sh1 billion be released from KEMSA’s bank account to settle payment owed to a supplier following a protracted legal dispute over a procurement deal targeting fixed-dose antiretroviral (ARV) combinations used in Kenya’s HIV programme. The contract, initiated to plug urgent gaps in the country’s HIV treatment pipeline, was intended to ensure uninterrupted access to life-saving…
Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has revisited the political fallout that followed the death of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in the mid-1990s, drawing parallels between the Ford party wrangles of that era and what he describes as emerging tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2026 political cycle. In a lengthy post shared on X, the outspoken lawyer reflected on the leadership contest that followed Jaramogi’s death, claiming that the battle between Kijana Wamalwa, James Orengo and Raila Odinga reshaped opposition politics in Kenya. According to Ahmednasir, Raila eventually walked away and built what he termed a “political behemoth…
In the heart of Makueni County, a once‑dreamt project is now reshaping agricultural value chains and inspiring counties across Kenya. The Kalamba Fruit Processing Plant was established in 2017 by the Makueni County Government through the Makueni County Fruit Development and Marketing Authority (MCFDMA) — has become a model of agro‑industrial transformation, turning mango farming from subsistence into a viable, market‑driven agribusiness. What began as a response to serious post‑harvest losses — where 30–40% of mango produce went to waste each season — has grown into an end‑to‑end value addition system. The plant originally focused on processing mangoes into puree,…
Kenyan lawmakers have rallied behind the Health (Amendment) Bill, 2024, a landmark legislation aimed at ending the detention of bodies over unpaid hospital bills and ensuring all Kenyans receive emergency medical care without upfront payment. The Bill, championed by Kirinyaga County MP Hon. Njeri Maina, proposes amendments to the Health Act, Cap. 241, compelling all public health facilities to provide emergency services before demanding payment. It also seeks to criminalize the holding of deceased bodies as collateral for unpaid medical fees — a practice increasingly criticized for undermining dignity and human rights. Hon. John Kiarie (Dagoretti South MP) underscored the…

Political momentum within the opposition took a dramatic turn over the weekend after Edwin Sifuna led a charged Linda Mwananchi rally in Kitengela that was later disrupted by police, while Kalonzo Musyoka remained conspicuously absent from the public scene.
