Kenyan Members of Parliament left behind their usual convoys and opted for the elegance and efficiency of the Madaraka Express as they traveled to Mombasa for the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games. The luxurious train journey not only symbolized a departure from their routine but also set a stylish tone for the annual sporting event.

In a post that quickly garnered attention, Kenya Railways expressed its pride in hosting the legislators:

“Kenya Railways is glad to have Members of Parliament travel using the Madaraka Express Passenger Service to Mombasa for the East Africa Parliamentary Sports.”

The decision to use the high-speed train marks a significant shift, with the MPs embracing a mode of transport that reflects modern infrastructure and sustainable travel. The Madaraka Express, known for its comfort, speed, and scenic views, has become a preferred option for Kenyans traveling between Nairobi and Mombasa.

The East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games bring together lawmakers from across the region, fostering unity and strengthening regional ties through sports. This year’s event will feature football, volleyball, netball, athletics, and other activities aimed at promoting health, wellness, and collaboration among EAC member states.

Beyond its practicality, the MPs’ choice of transport carries a symbolic message. It underscores the importance of utilizing public infrastructure, showcasing how the state-of-the-art rail service can cater to the needs of all Kenyans, including the country’s top decision-makers.

As the MPs prepare to represent Kenya in the games, their journey aboard the Madaraka Express has set the tone for what promises to be a memorable event, blending diplomacy, sportsmanship, and regional integration. This bold move to “ride with the people” is already sparking conversations about the growing appeal of public transport for high-profile figures.

From Parliament to the tracks, the journey signals not just a change in scenery but a testament to the country’s advancements in modern infrastructure and the spirit of togetherness the EAC games aim to champion.
