A dramatic scene unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday morning after a police officer opened fire on his colleague in Nairobi, accusing him of having an affair with his girlfriend.

According to a police report obtained exclusively by Channel 15 News, the incident occurred at around 2:20 am at Joiners Grill and Lodge Bar. Police Constable (PC) Piro Mwarsho of Kamukunji Police Station was on patrol when he briefly left his team to retrieve his mobile phone, which he had left charging at the establishment.

    The report reads:
“It was reported by No.111715 PC Piro Mwarsho of Kamukunji Police Station that today at around 0220hrs while on duty in company of his colleagues No. 241312 PC Jin Ouma and No. 113034 PC Bernard Muroti, all of Muthurwa Police Post on patrol duties along Muthurwa, PC Piro Mwarsho excused himself to go to pick his mobile phone which he left charging at Joiners Grill and Lodge bar.”

It was at this moment that Police Constable Emmanuel Juma, allegedly driven by jealousy, confronted Mwarsho inside the bar and accused him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.

Witnesses say the confrontation quickly escalated when Juma drew his firearm and fired a shot directly at Mwarsho. Fortunately, the bullet missed by inches, averting a potential tragedy.

“The bullet missed Mwarsho by a whisker. It could have been a fatal scene inside the bar,” a senior officer privy to the investigation told Channel 15 News.

In a quick escape, PC Piro Mwarsho managed to flee the scene unharmed and immediately reported the matter to Kamukunji Police Station. Responding swiftly, the duty officer from Kamukunji visited the scene, which was later processed by the Scenes of Crime (SOC) standby team for forensic analysis.

PC Emmanuel Juma was arrested and disarmed on the spot. He is currently in custody as detectives prepare to charge him with attempted murder.

Sources within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that the woman at the center of the deadly love triangle has also been summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing probe.

“This is a serious breach of discipline and professionalism. Officers are expected to uphold the law, not misuse their firearms over personal disputes,” a senior officer stated.

The shocking incident has sparked fresh debate about the growing cases of love affairs turning violent within the police service, with calls for urgent psychological support and counseling programs for officers.

As of press time, PC Emmanuel Juma remains in custody as investigations continue.
