Nakuru, Kenya – The congregation of Christ Impact Church in Ruiru is in disbelief after their spiritual leader, Prophet Peter Kimondo Baragu, was charged with rape and committing an indecent act against an adult.

The flamboyant preacher, who styled himself as a prophet and healer, was today paraded before Principal Magistrate Ruth Kefa at the Nakuru Law Courts, where disturbing details of the case were laid bare.

    The Allegations

According to the prosecution, led by Counsel Daniel Wakasyaka, the accused allegedly raped James Kiarie Mungai, a tuk-tuk driver, on the night of May 27, 2022, at White House area in Nakuru East Sub-County. The court heard that at around 9:00 pm, Prophet Peter unlawfully forced himself on the unsuspecting driver, allegedly under the pretext of offering him “spiritual cleansing.”

Further revelations indicate that the accused forcibly undressed the victim and touched him inappropriately before committing the heinous act. The chilling details have sparked widespread outrage, with calls for justice growing louder.

    Escape and Arrest Drama

The case, first reported in 2022, took a dramatic turn when Prophet Peter vanished soon after the allegations surfaced, prompting law enforcement to issue an arrest warrant on March 1, 2025. His sudden reappearance and subsequent arrest have left many questioning how he managed to evade capture for nearly two years.

    Prosecution Opposes Bail

Prosecutor Wakasyaka strongly opposed bail, arguing that the case carries significant public interest and that the accused might attempt to interfere with witnesses. The defense, however, is expected to battle for his release in the upcoming bond/bail hearing set for March 18, 2024.

Meanwhile, murmurs of disbelief and betrayal continue to spread among Prophet Peter’s followers, many of whom are struggling to reconcile his religious persona with the dark allegations before him.

    What Next?

As the trial unfolds, all eyes are on the Nakuru Law Courts, with the public eager to see whether the wheels of justice will turn swiftly or if the case will be buried in the usual delays that plague Kenya’s judicial system.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
