The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has nominated Kimanzi Mwendwa to contest the November 17, 2026, Migwani Ward by-election in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County, as the ruling party steps up efforts to consolidate its grassroots support.
Mwendwa was issued with a Certificate of Nomination by the party on Friday, with UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan expressing confidence that the candidate would secure a decisive victory.
Hassan said the party had activated its grassroots structures to mobilise support for Mwendwa, describing the contest as part of UDAโs wider strategy to strengthen its nationwide presence and win elective seats across the country.

โWe have activated our grassroots infrastructure to win the seat,โ the party said, signalling its determination to mount a competitive campaign in the Kitui County ward.
In his acceptance speech, Mwendwa thanked Migwani residents for the confidence they had placed in him and pledged to serve the ward with dedication.

His nomination sets the stage for the campaign ahead of the November poll, with UDA seeking to translate its organisational networks into electoral support.
Hassan also linked Mwendwaโs candidacy to the partyโs Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), saying a vote for the candidate would represent support for inclusive development.
The party has made BETA a central pillar of its development agenda as it seeks to rally voters behind its candidates.

Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, who accompanied Mwendwa during the nomination event, commended UDA for conducting what he described as a transparent and fair nomination process.
Ngunaโs presence highlighted the involvement of the constituencyโs political leadership in the partyโs preparations for the ward contest.

The November 17 by-election will offer UDA an opportunity to test its grassroots mobilisation in Mwingi West as candidates seek the support of Migwani voters.
The party has now formally positioned Mwendwa as its flag-bearer, with its leadership banking on local mobilisation and its development message to deliver the seat.
