Nominated Nyandarua Member of County Assembly (MCA) Milka Nyambura Mwangi has attracted fresh attention online after a video emerged showing her claiming that she sat her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in the year 2097.
The statement has reignited online discussions surrounding the county legislator, who recently went viral following a county assembly vetting session in which she struggled to frame questions in English.
According to media reports, Nyambura was asked when she sat her KCPE examinations and reportedly responded, “2097.” When given an opportunity to clarify the answer, she allegedly repeated the same year.
The reference to 2097 has since become the latest talking point surrounding the MCA, with the apparent error drawing reactions across social media.
Nyambura’s Education Journey
Reports indicate that Nyambura sat her KCPE examinations in 1997, rather than 2097. She attended Muhuti Primary School in North Kinangop, Nyandarua County, before financial challenges reportedly interrupted her education.
She later returned to school as an adult, sat her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations at Naivasha Mixed Secondary School and pursued further studies.
Media profiles have reported that she subsequently obtained a Diploma in Co-operative Management from Kabete Technical College and a bachelor’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from Mount Kenya University.
Why the MCA Previously Went Viral
Nyambura recently attracted widespread attention after footage from a county assembly vetting session circulated online.
During the proceedings, she questioned Patrick Ndung’u Kabugi, a nominee for the position of Chief Officer for Youth Affairs, Sports and Innovation. Her questions and difficulty expressing herself in English sparked debate about communication skills among elected and nominated leaders.
The episode prompted mixed reactions, with some social media users criticising her performance while others questioned whether English fluency should be used as a measure of a leader’s ability to serve the public.
Fresh Spotlight on Nyandarua MCA
Nyambura’s latest reported remarks have brought her back into the online spotlight, renewing conversations about her education and public appearances.
The incident also highlights how short video clips can rapidly shape public perceptions of political leaders, particularly when their remarks become the subject of widespread online discussion.
