Two families in Site Estate, Kitui Township Ward, Kitui Central Constituency, are counting their losses after a fire razed their rented houses on Monday evening, leaving them facing the prospect of spending the night in the cold.
The fire broke out shortly after 6pm, triggering concern among residents as flames threatened to spread to neighbouring houses.

According to Peter Mutua, an eyewitness who spoke to Channel 15 News, the fire is suspected to have originated from a gas cylinder. However, the suspected cause has not been officially confirmed, and investigations are underway.
Firefighting equipment from the Kitui County Government arrived at the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to the remaining houses.

The extent of the damage and the value of property destroyed had not been established by the time of publication.
The affected families now face the challenge of recovering from the incident and finding alternative accommodation as details surrounding the fire continue to emerge.
