Kitui County woke up to a chilling road carnage this morning after a speeding pickup plowed through two unsuspecting pedestrians at Kwa Toma, near Kyatune Market, along the notorious Kitui-Kibwezi Road.

Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene, saying the victims had barely stepped onto the road when the driver, seemingly losing control, rammed into them at high speed. The impact was so severe that both men died on the spot, their bodies tossed several meters from the scene.
Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, Kyatune Chief Kyambati King’ondu confirmed that the bodies of the deceased, a pastor and a bussinesman , have been moved to Mutomo Level 4 Hospital morgue as police launch investigations into the fatal crash.
This stretch of the Kitui-Kibwezi Road has gained a reputation for being a death trap, with reckless driving and poor road conditions contributing to a series of grisly accidents in recent months. Residents are now calling for urgent intervention from traffic authorities before more lives are lost.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a trailer driver is lucky to be alive after his vehicle veered off the road and overturned at Maanzoni along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway. The massive truck rolled multiple times before coming to a halt, leaving a trail of destruction.
The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident is yet to be established, though preliminary reports suggest brake failure or driver fatigue could be to blame.

With road accidents surging at an alarming rate, authorities are once again under pressure to enforce stricter traffic regulations to curb the rising menace.
