Wiper Party Leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has fiercely rebuffed claims by Dennis Itumbi that his party is behind delays in reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). In a scathing statement, Kalonzo accused President William Ruto’s administration of intentionally stalling the process to manipulate the commission, creating what he termed as a “constitutional crisis.”
Responding to Itumbi’s allegations shared via #SystemYaFacts, Kalonzo defended Wiper’s adherence to court timelines by nominating Dr. Koki Muli to the IEBC selection panel. He further alleged that the state undermined the process by filing an appeal with the Kiambu High Court.
“The State itself has filed an appeal with the Kiambu High Court. They want candidates who are easy to influence and manipulate. It is a Ruto strategy to ensure there is no IEBC,” Kalonzo charged.
Wetangula Under Fire
Kalonzo did not spare National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, accusing him of being part of what he termed a “conspiracy against Kenyans.” He claimed the government failed to prioritize resolving the IEBC issue, focusing instead on shielding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from impeachment.
“If they had taken time to marshall Parliament, as they did with Riggy G, the country would not be in a constitutional crisis,” he asserted.
The Blame Game Continues
Describing the ongoing impasse as a “Ruto-created mess,” Kalonzo said the delays are deliberate, denying Kenyans a functioning electoral commission.
As accusations fly between government allies and the opposition, the IEBC reconstitution remains mired in court battles, with no resolution in sight.
