Emmanuel Maleve, a prominent Digital Media Journalist working with Hopkin Media and TV, has been arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitui.

The well-known journalist, famed for his bold reporting on political and social issues, was whisked away by plainclothes officers this afternoon under tight security. Eyewitnesses say the arrest happened swiftly, with Maleve barely given a moment to react before being bundled into an unmarked vehicle.

According to journalists who had gathered at the scene, the DCI sleuths informed them that they were acting on direct orders from the DCI Headquarters in Kiambu. “We have clear instructions to apprehend him. Any further details will be communicated from Nairobi,” one officer reportedly said.

Maleve’s arrest has sent shockwaves across the media fraternity in Kitui and beyond, with questions swirling about the nature of the charges he may be facing. The Media Council of Kenya has been notified, and pressure is mounting for a public statement.

“This is a worrying trend,” said one senior journalist who asked to remain anonymous. “We must protect press freedom at all costs.”

As of now, the reasons for the arrest remain unclear, but sources within the media industry suspect it may be linked to recent investigative pieces Maleve has been working on.

Maleve is currently en route to the DCI Headquarters in Kiambu, where he is expected to be interrogated.
