Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has shared an emotional tribute to his adopted daughter, Janet Kaindi, as she prepares to walk down the aisle after overcoming a difficult childhood marked by the loss of both her parents.
Janet, who hails from Nzeluni Village in Mwingi, Kitui County, joined Sonko’s family 18 years ago when she was a young Class Three pupil facing an uncertain future following the death of her parents.

According to Sonko, his family welcomed her into their home and supported her education, enrolling her at Baraka Primary School in Buruburu before she later joined Arya Girls High School. She would eventually graduate from Daystar University, a milestone Sonko says filled him with pride.
Now, the young woman who once arrived at his doorstep as an orphan is preparing to begin a new chapter in her life through marriage.

“My heart first began to overflow with emotion when the parents of her fiancé visited our Nyari home for introductions. Then during her ruracio ceremony at our Mua Hills home, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and joy,” Sonko said.
The traditional dowry negotiations brought together members of both families as the family of Janet’s fiancé, Elvis Kintu, formally sought her hand in marriage.
For Sonko, the occasion was particularly emotional because he too grew up as an orphan. To mark the special day, he invited elders from the Akamba Council of Clans drawn from Kitui, Machakos and Makueni counties to stand with him as family representatives.

The elders, led by Daniel Mutunga Muasya of the Akitondo Clan and Felix Mutune Malenga, received the dowry on behalf of Sonko’s family.
The former governor described watching Janet’s marriage journey unfold as one of the most fulfilling moments of his life.
“Today, I do not see the frightened orphaned girl who first walked through our doors. I see a remarkable, beautiful, intelligent and responsible woman who has blossomed beyond anything we could have imagined and is now ready to begin a family of her own,” he said.

Sonko revealed that the couple’s wedding is scheduled for July 14 at Limuru Gardens, where family and friends are expected to gather to celebrate their union.
He said Janet’s story is a powerful reminder that adversity can be overcome through love, support and determination.
From a young orphan in Mwingi to a university graduate and now a bride-to-be, Janet Kaindi’s journey has become a touching story of resilience, hope and family, culminating in a wedding that Sonko says he will cherish for the rest of his life.
