Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called out President William Ruto, questioning his credibility on the fight against corruption. Speaking at the grand unveiling of the new DAP-K Party headquarters in Karen , Nairobi County, where he joined the Party Leaders Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Democratic Movement) and Eugene Wamalwa of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya, Gachagua lashed out at the president over allegations that he was being sidelined due to corruption claims.

“Anaenda pale Western anasema tumefukuza Rigathi Gachagua ati he is corrupt. William Ruto, do you have the moral authority to talk about corruption?”
The former DP, took his criticism a notch higher, referencing an international corruption ranking that allegedly placed Ruto as the second most corrupt person globally.

“We sympathize with you because juzi kumekuwa na opinion poll on the most corrupt person in the world. We are unhappy that you were rigged—instead of giving you number 1, they gave you number 2.”
Gachagua vs Ruto: A Rift Beyond Repair?
Gachagua’s remarks mark a dangerous escalation in the power struggle between him and his former boss. Once seen as Ruto’s most trusted lieutenant, the former DP has increasingly found himself isolated leading to his impeachment, with accusations that he was undermining the president and fueling divisions in the Kenya Kwanza government.

His outburst comes at a time when Mount Kenya leaders are reportedly divided over their continued loyalty to Ruto. Some have rallied behind Gachagua, arguing that he is being politically targeted, while others maintain that his combative style of politics has made him a liability.
Speaking at the same event where Gachagua fired shots at Ruto, Salasya mocked those who had allegedly plotted to politically sideline the DP, insisting that their strategy had backfired.

“Walikuwa wanadhani baada ya event mbili tatu watu watamsahau Riggy G. But now it has become different. They have realized that Wamunyoro has become so active, so wanauliza, Ni nini inahapen kule?”
Salasya’s remarks reflect the growing political uncertainty surrounding Gachagua, who has defied expectations by maintaining a strong presence in national politics, despite mounting impeachment efforts and internal wrangles within Kenya Kwanza.
The ‘Wamunyoro’ Factor: Gachagua’s Resurgence?
Salasya’s use of the term ‘Wamunyoro’ (a Kikuyu reference to a fighter or a strongman) underscores how Gachagua has rebranded himself as a political warrior, determined to resist forces seeking to push him out.
Insiders say that Mount Kenya leaders are watching closely, with many wondering if Gachagua’s growing defiance signals a new political realignment ahead of 2027.
With the battle lines drawn and Gachagua refusing to back down, one thing is clear—this is a war far from over.
What Next?
With both Ruto and Gachagua locked in a heated exchange, the coming weeks could define the future of Mount Kenya’s role in the 2027 elections. Will Gachagua hold his ground, or will the political machinery move to silence him for good?
