Rt. Rev. John Kiplimo Arap Lelei has officially been installed as the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet, marking a historic moment for the Catholic Church in Kenya.
The installation ceremony was held at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex in Nandi County and was graced by President William Ruto, who congratulated the new bishop and urged him to lead with humility and wisdom.

“Be guided by the word of God in Proverbs 3:5-6 in your pastoral role and keep serving the congregants with love, dedication and wisdom. You have our support, goodwill and co-operation,” the President said.

The Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet, erected by Pope Leo XIV on July 10, 2025, is the 28th Episcopal See in Kenya. It was carved from the Eldoret Diocese and comprises the deaneries of Ndalat, Kaiboi, Chepterit, Ol’ Lessos, Nandi Hills, and Kobujoi.

The establishment of the new diocese and the installation of Bishop Lelei is expected to enhance pastoral outreach, evangelization, and community service in the region.
