The has raised concern over what it termed as reckless claims by some political actors alleging plans to influence the outcome of the 2027 General Election through illegal means.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, the commission said recent public utterances suggesting that the presidential election could be manipulated through extra-legal mechanisms were dangerous and risked undermining public confidence in the country’s democratic processes.
The electoral agency said the remarks had generated anxiety within the political environment and warned that such statements could distort public perception about the integrity of future elections.

“IEBC considers such utterances to be unacceptable, reckless and entirely baseless,” the commission stated.
The commission accused the individuals behind the claims of attempting to instill fear among Kenyans while misleading the public on the credibility of the electoral system ahead of the 2027 polls.
It urged Kenyans to ignore the statements and refrain from spreading narratives likely to erode trust in the country’s electoral processes.
While condemning the remarks, the commission clarified that the Electoral Code of Conduct under Article 84 of the Constitution and Section 110 of the Elections Act is currently not operational because no election period has officially been declared.

The commission cited a Supreme Court decision in the case involving , which affirmed that the IEBC only assumes jurisdiction under the Electoral Code of Conduct during an active election period.
The agency further noted that it had not yet declared the 2027 General Election, saying there was therefore no basis for what it described as premature political rhetoric surrounding the election.
IEBC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its constitutional independence and impartiality, assuring Kenyans that it remained fully prepared to conduct a free, fair and credible election in accordance with the Constitution and international best practices.
The statement comes amid heightened political activity and growing debate over the credibility of future elections as the country slowly begins to shift focus towards the 2027 General Election.
