National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr. Augustus Muli has officially unveiled the party’s candidates for the upcoming 2025 by-elections, setting the stage for what he described as a test of “leadership built on service and integrity.”

Speaking during the issuance of nomination certificates, Dr. Muli said the NLP was ready to contest both parliamentary and county assembly seats in key regions across the country. “Today, I had the honour of presenting certificates to our candidates. Together, we are building a leadership of service and integrity,” he affirmed.

In Homa Bay County’s Kasipul Constituency, the NLP flag will be carried by Omondi K’oyoo, while in Siaya County’s Ugunja Constituency, Oliver Ochuka has been cleared to vie. At the grassroots level, Carlwethers Mutisya will represent the party in Mumbuni North Ward, Machakos County, as Evans Mwema takes the challenge in Kariobangi North Ward, Nairobi County.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set 27 November 2025 as the date for the nationwide by-elections, with all vacancies — including parliamentary and county assembly seats — to be filled on the same day. Parties are expected to conclude primaries and resolve internal disputes by early October before submitting their official lists of candidates for clearance.

For Dr. Muli and the NLP, these contests are more than routine by-elections. They represent an opportunity to showcase the party’s vision in regions traditionally dominated by established political giants. By fielding candidates in both Nyanza and urban strongholds like Nairobi and Machakos, the NLP is signalling its intent to build a broad national presence ahead of the 2027 general election.

Political observers note that the November polls will not only determine who takes over the vacant seats but also serve as a barometer for voter sentiment and party influence in the midterm cycle. For the NLP, however, the mission is clear: to use this moment to present itself as a credible alternative rooted in integrity, service, and liberal democratic values.
