A man accused of publishing inflammatory and offensive content on social media has been arrested in Mombasa following a police operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The suspect, identified as David Onyango Elgon, also known online as MC Adek Tatu, was apprehended after authorities linked him to social media posts that sparked widespread public outrage and attracted significant attention across various online platforms.
According to the DCI, the posts were published through the suspect’s Facebook account and later circulated widely on social media, raising concerns over their potential impact on public order and national cohesion.
Detectives launched investigations and tracked the suspect to Queen’s Court in Utange, Mombasa County, where he was arrested at his residence following what the agency described as actionable intelligence.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
In a statement, the DCI cautioned social media users against the misuse of digital platforms, noting that freedom of expression should be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.
The agency warned that publishing or distributing inflammatory content capable of inciting public unrest or causing divisions among Kenyans constitutes a criminal offence and may attract legal action.
Authorities have urged members of the public to use social media responsibly and to refrain from sharing content that could undermine peace and national unity.
