A deep wave of grief has engulfed Nzaatani Village in Mwingi West, Kitui County after three members of a respected local family were reportedly found dead inside their house in Saika Estate, Nairobi, in what detectives are treating as a suspected murder–suicide.

The deceased — Justus Wambua Kavyu, his wife Tabitha Kathini Wambua, and their teenage daughter Stacey Kiluti Wambua — were discovered lifeless under circumstances police have described as “highly suspicious.” Early reports suggest that the man may have killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life, though investigators say the exact cause and sequence of events will only be confirmed after a full forensic investigation.

The shocking discovery has unsettled both Saika residents and the family’s rural community in Nzaatani, where the Wambuas were well-known, peaceful, and deeply rooted. Their sudden death has left relatives and villagers stunned, with many grappling for answers.

Detectives from Njiru Sub-County are now piecing together the family’s final hours — examining the scene, analysing phone and digital data, tracing their recent movements, and interviewing neighbours who described the household as quiet and reserved. Police are also exploring whether domestic issues, psychological distress, or external influences may have played a role.

However, as often happens when tragedy strikes so abruptly, the incident has triggered speculation, with some whispering that “sasa hapa ndio watu wa Ngomism wanaeza ingilia” — a nod to cultural and spiritual interpretations that typically surface when deaths seem mysterious or unexplainable. Others have urged restraint, calling for compassion and waiting for official findings.

Even as investigations continue, the heartbreak is overwhelming. Friends, colleagues, and relatives have taken to social media to express disbelief, sorrow, and shock — remembering the Wambuas as a loving, hardworking family whose lives were cut short in the most painful way.

The three will be laid to rest at their ancestral home in Nzaatani Village, Mwingi West, where preparations are underway and a large turnout is expected as the community gathers in solidarity.

For now, the painful question lingers: What truly happened inside that Saika home?

Police say a full report will be released once investigations are complete.
