Police in Meru have arrested Sister Anselmina Karimi, a Catholic nun, on suspicion of killing a fellow sister in an incident that occurred on Saturday.
Confirming the arrest, Imenti East Police Commander Adano Abkula said the suspect is being held in custody as investigations continue to determine the circumstances and motive behind the tragic incident.
“We have a suspect in custody, and investigations are ongoing. The motive is not yet clear,” said Abkula.
The incident has shocked the Catholic community in Meru, with sources indicating that both nuns served at the same convent. The identity of the deceased nun has not been disclosed pending notification of her family.
The body has since been moved to Meru Level 5 Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination, as detectives continue gathering statements from witnesses and clergy.
Church officials have remained tight-lipped as they await the outcome of the police investigation, with plans underway for an official statement from the Catholic Diocese of Meru.
