Nzaui, Makueni County – A devastating fire has razed down a dormitory at Matiku Secondary School, leaving students stranded and causing significant property damage of unknown value.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at around 7 PM as students were attending their night preps. The inferno, which has since been contained, comes just days after students resumed classes following the suspension of the nationwide teachers’ strike by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in the incident. However, the fire has left students who were housed in the affected dormitory without shelter. They now face the grim reality of spending the night in the cold or squeezing into the remaining dormitories, which are already at full capacity.

Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing. The school administration is expected to address the situation and provide temporary solutions for the displaced students. This incident raises concerns about the safety of school facilities, especially after the recent disruptions caused by the teachers’ strike.

The school community is anxiously awaiting further updates as they assess the extent of the damage and plan for the days ahead.Updates on this story will be provided as more information becomes available.
