Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has gazetted the creation of 27 sub-counties, 59 divisions, 170 locations, and 322 sub-locations nationwide, with Lower Eastern being a key beneficiary. Specific highlights include:

Makueni County: The creation of Kibwezi Location, carved from Kikumbulyu, will improve service delivery for Kalungu, Mbuinzau, and Mukuyuni residents, reducing their need to travel long distances for government services.

Machakos County: New administrative units focus on better governance, especially in growing regions like Kathiani and Yatta.

Kitui County: Restructuring in sub-regions like Kitui South and Kitui Rural aims to enhance accessibility to essential services, though specific details are pending.

These changes are part of the government’s broader effort to decentralize services and ensure efficient service delivery in underserved areas.
