The Lighthouse Ministers Nairobi has suspended one of its members following a shocking acid attack incident involving gospel singer Mary Claire, as investigations into the matter gather pace.

In an official statement, the ministry expressed sympathy for the victim and distanced itself from the alleged actions, noting that the individual said to be involved is known to the church but acted in a personal capacity.

“The ministry does not condone any form of violence,” the statement read in part, adding that the member has been suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of investigations.

Police have since arrested Elvis Opiyo, who is currently being held at Kibera Police Station as detectives continue with investigations into the incident.

Authorities say preliminary findings indicate that the attack was targeted, though full details are yet to be established. Detectives are also pursuing leads that could reveal whether more individuals were involved.

Mary Claire is currently admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is receiving specialized treatment after sustaining serious injuries.

The incident has sparked public outrage, with calls for swift justice and thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police have urged members of the public with any information that could aid the investigation to come forward.
