Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred N. Mutua has joined the global community in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, paying tribute to his legacy of peace, compassion, and justice.

In a heartfelt message, Dr. Mutua reflected on the Pope’s influence not just within the Catholic Church, but across faiths and nations.
“His life of service inspired people across all faiths to embrace love, unity, and care for one another,” he stated, describing the Pontiff as a “true champion of peace.”
Dr. Mutua also shared a personal memory from Pope Francis’ historic visit to Kenya, recalling the moment he met the Pope — an encounter he describes as a blessing. “I was super excited and felt blessed when I met Pope Francis, whom I have always referred to as Papa Franco,” he said, adding that he still treasures the papal visit medal given to him and his colleagues during the meeting.

He further recounted a recent visit to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, which helped him better understand the values Pope Francis stood for. “It is about humility and service. Others before self,” he noted.
On behalf of his ministry and in his personal capacity, Dr. Mutua extended his condolences to the Catholic faithful, the Vatican, and all who were touched by the Pope’s leadership.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the message concluded.

Pope Francis, who served as the head of the Catholic Church since 2013, leaves behind a legacy of simplicity, dialogue, and advocacy for the poor and vulnerable.
