Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has unveiled a sweeping portfolio of reforms and development projects aimed at expanding access to essential services—most notably clean water and healthcare—across the county.
Speaking during his State of the County Address at the Kitui County Assembly chambers on Tuesday, Governor Malombe outlined key milestones his administration has achieved in transforming service delivery and uplifting rural livelihoods.

The governor announced that his administration has installed and rehabilitated 134 kilometers of water pipeline extensions, significantly reducing the distance residents must walk to fetch water.
Key pipeline projects include:
Nzeluni earth dam to Kilungu (Migwani Ward)
Tyaa sump-well to Mboru Primary School (Mwingi Central)
Konani Kwa Kalondu to KITWASCO Manyenyoni (Township)
Kaunguni borehole to Mungatu Shopping Centre (Athi)
Mang’ola to Kiema Kilonzo Primary School (Chuluni)
Kwa Mwatu to Kwa Kamula (Kanyangi)
Kwa Mutuku to Sangala Market (Kauwi)
Matingani to Kwa Kitavi to Kwa Ngungu (Kyuso)

“These efforts are part of our long-term strategy to ensure water security and ease the burden on our people, especially women and children,” said Governor Malombe.
In addition, the county has installed 180 plastic water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres, at strategic public institutions and community water points. Beneficiaries include:
Enziu ECDE (Kivou Ward)
Kamutekeo ECDE (Kyome/Thaana)
Munathi Primary School (Ikanga/Kyatune)
Kyamboo Dispensary (Migwani)
Kathivo VTC (Kwa Mutonga/Kithumula)

On the health front, Governor Malombe revealed that the number of operational healthcare facilities in Kitui has increased from 306 in 2022 to 311 in 2025. This includes the construction, completion, and operationalization of five new dispensaries:
Kiviu Dispensary (Mutomo/Kibwea)
Kilulu Dispensary (Kyuso)
Vinda Dispensary (Miambani)
Ngungi Dispensary (Zombe/Mwitika)
Kangondi Dispensary (Mutonguni)
The governor further announced that 34 additional healthcare facilities are currently under construction or undergoing renovations in underserved areas. These include:
Kaluluini in Kaliakatune (Mutha)
Gatoroni (Tharaka)
Katuyu (Nguutani)
Kyeng’e (Kauwi)
Nyaanyaa (Yatta/Kwa Vonza)
Mulang’a (Mwingi Central)
Kalundu (Township)
Ndili (Ikutha)
Kimela (Ngomeni)
“This bold initiative moves us closer to achieving the vision of a dispensary in every village, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage,” said Governor Malombe.
He concluded by affirming his administration’s commitment to closing critical service gaps and improving the quality of life for all Kitui residents.
