Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that the Azimio coalition is actively engaging in talks with like-minded political parties and individuals in a bid to strengthen its opposition footing. Speaking at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi, Kalonzo underscored the importance of unity within Azimio’s ranks, hinting at plans for a consolidated alliance as they look toward the 2027 general election.
Kalonzo’s remarks follow recent media reports suggesting that Wiper, Jubilee, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-Kenya), and other Azimio-affiliated parties are planning to build a mega coalition. The proposed alliance seeks to unify opposition forces to create a formidable counterweight to the ruling administration.
Kalonzo shared these insights while receiving the inaugural “Peace Ambassador of the Year Award,” recognizing his long-standing commitment to promoting peace in Kenya and beyond. The award ceremony, held at the SKM Command Centre, celebrated Kalonzo’s diplomatic achievements and his dedication to stability—a vision he hopes to advance through a strengthened coalition ahead of 2027.
In recent days, speculations have also grown around the possibility of collaborations involving Kalonzo and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with unconfirmed reports suggesting backchannel discussions to bridge Azimio and some UDA-leaning leaders. While both sides have refrained from confirming these talks publicly, analysts see this as a sign of Azimio’s readiness to broaden its strategy to gain leverage in Parliament and sway the influence landscape.
