Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has confirmed that an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is underway.

Speaking during a church service at Assembly Church in Kikuyu earlier today, Ichung’wah revealed that he has already appended his signature in support of the motion, signaling his full backing of the effort to remove Gachagua from office.

Quoting Deuteronomy 31:6, Ichung’wah encouraged the congregation to “be strong and courageous,” reaffirming his belief that standing firm in the face of opposition is key to ensuring the country’s progress.

The Majority Leader’s statement adds significant weight to the brewing political storm, as his influence in the National Assembly could sway other legislators to follow suit. The impeachment motion, whose details are yet to be fully disclosed, has ignited discussions across the political landscape, especially as Ichung’wah is seen as a close ally of President William Ruto.

Adding to the growing pressure, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has also thrown his support behind the motion. Wetangula, speaking on the matter, stated unequivocally that anyone attempting to cause chaos in Kenya must be stopped, further indicating that the planned impeachment has high-level backing. His endorsement suggests a widening rift within the top echelons of power, as Gachagua faces increasing opposition from key political figures.

The push for Gachagua’s impeachment comes at a time when tensions have been high within the government, with divisions emerging over leadership wrangles within the ruling UDA party. The impeachment motion is expected to be tabled soon in Parliament, setting the stage for a potential political showdown between Gachagua’s supporters and his critics.

If successful, the impeachment could have far-reaching consequences, not only for the Deputy President but also for the stability of the Ruto administration. Political analysts are closely monitoring these developments, as this motion may reshape the country’s political trajectory.

Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
