Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has intensified the party’s political mobilisation in Mombasa, bringing together aspirants from across the county and pledging free, fair and transparent nominations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo held a consultative meeting with Wiper aspirants from all six constituencies and 30 wards in Mombasa County. The meeting was led by Nyali MP and WPF Deputy Party Leader-designate Mohamed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu.
The discussions focused on political mobilisation, strengthening grassroots structures and building people-centred leadership capable of representing Mombasa residents’ aspirations.

In a statement after the meeting, the former Vice President reaffirmed the party’s commitment to giving all aspirants an equal opportunity to compete for its tickets.
“To all our aspirants, I reaffirm our party’s commitment to free, fair and transparent nominations. Every aspirant will have an equal opportunity to compete, and the will of our party members shall be respected,” Kalonzo said.
The pledge comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections, with competition for tickets expected to shape county and parliamentary contests.
Mohamed Ali at the centre of Wiper’s Mombasa strategy
Mohamed Ali, the Nyali MP and former investigative journalist popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has emerged as a central figure in Wiper’s efforts to expand its political presence at the Coast.
Kalonzo publicly backed Ali for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in April 2026, announcing that he would receive the Wiper ticket after consultations with other opposition leaders.
Ali’s position was further elevated in August when he was appointed Deputy Party Leader-designate.

The latest meeting brought the gubernatorial aspirant together with candidates seeking elective positions at different levels as Wiper works to establish structures across Mombasa’s constituencies and wards.
Kalonzo’s pledge of fair nominations also puts the party’s internal electoral processes under scrutiny, with aspirants and members likely to judge the process by its implementation.
Ukombozi Mombasa Tour takes campaign to Kisauni
After the meeting, Kalonzo continued the Ukombozi Mombasa Tour with a public engagement at Juda Mwisho in Kisauni.
The two-day tour included activities in Changamwe and Mwembe Tayari on Friday, October 9, followed by Saturday’s aspirants’ meeting and public engagements in Kisauni and Shanzu.

The tour comes amid heightened political activity at the Coast, following recent visits by President William Ruto and other opposition leaders seeking to consolidate regional support ahead of the next General Election.
For Wiper, the challenge will be converting public engagements and grassroots structures into sustained support across the county.

The party’s strategy combines broader mobilisation with assurances that aspirants will have a fair chance to secure nomination tickets. Its success will depend on the visibility of its leaders, credible nomination processes and its ability to respond to residents’ concerns.
