Machakos County Health Department is on the spot after county residents acccused the governor of doing too little to normalize operations at Kagundo Level 4 Mortuary.

According to the residents, scheduled replacement of the outdated cooling machines at the Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary which had been in operations for thirty years has not be done paralyzing operations at the medical facility.
The mortuary cooling equipments had broken down earlier this year leading to a temporary shutdown of the facility causing significant inconvenience to residents of Matungulu and Kangundo sub-counties.
Machakos County government through her Health Chief Officer Rashid Kala while addressing press following the breakdown confirmed that the facility had been handed over to a contractor after a procurement process was completed but three months down the line, nothing has been done to adress the problem.

“These machines are old and the four chambers require an overhaul. We have done a procurement process which has culminated in us having a contractor. We hope this process will be done in ten days and we can be able to receive bodies. We have encouraged the contractor to work day and night to ensure the work ends early,” He said .
However a close check by Channel 15 News today , revealed otherwise as no cooling system were found and mortuary’s operations were stalled.

A mortuary attendant who spoke to Channel 15 News and didn’t want his identify to be revealed said operations at the facility had stalled for a while and they were waiting for instructions from their bosses on further directives.
Mutemi Mutua a resident of Matungulu told us that he was forced to look for alternative mortuary in Machakos after he lost a relative , following the shutdown of the facility. He called on Machakos governor Hon Wavinya Ndeti to do all what she can in her power to restore mortuary services at the hospital.
Our phonecall to County Minster Of Health Richard went unanswered by the time we went to press.
