Three young mothers in Kitui County are among the more than 960,000 candidates sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams this year.

Three of the students, from various secondary schools in Kitui, delivered their babies at Kitui Referral Hospital just hours before the exams commenced.

According to Kitui County Director of Education, Mr. Khalif Issack, two other students who had given birth earlier this year were discharged and have since been taken under the care of education officials to ensure they sit for their exams as planned.

Mr. Khalif stated that arrangements were made to facilitate the trio in taking their exams at the hospital until they are well enough to be discharged. He confirmed that the KCSE exams in Kitui County started smoothly, with exam managers present to oversee the process and ensure all candidates had the support they needed.
