Kenyan motorists and households face fresh cost-of-living pressure after the energy regulator raised petrol, diesel and kerosene prices for the next 30 days.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices for the period October 15 to November 14, 2026, piling fresh pressure on household budgets and businesses already grappling with high operating costs.

Under the latest review, super petrol has increased by Sh12.93 per litre, diesel by Sh9.90 and kerosene by Sh28.49, with kerosene recording the steepest rise among the three petroleum products.

In Nairobi, the maximum retail price of super petrol will rise to Sh226.96 per litre, while diesel will retail at Sh227.76 and kerosene at Sh219.85.

The increase in fuel prices is likely to have wider economic implications, particularly for public transport operators, motorists, traders and businesses that rely on petroleum products to move people and goods.

Higher fuel costs can translate into increased transport and distribution expenses, potentially putting additional pressure on the prices of food and other essential commodities.

Households that depend on kerosene for cooking and lighting are also set to bear a heavier burden, following an increase of more than Sh28 per litre.

The latest adjustment comes amid concerns over international petroleum supply disruptions and rising import costs. The impact on consumers will depend partly on how transport operators and businesses respond to the higher prices.

The new rates take effect on October 15 and will remain in force until November 14, 2026, when the next monthly review is expected.

For millions of Kenyans, the immediate concern is whether the latest fuel price increases will trigger further rises in transport fares and the cost of essential goods.
