Embattled Music Copyright Society Of Kenya CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua seems to have had a good evening today with Gengetone artist Ssaru despite the current heat he is facing at Music Copyright Society of Kenya over mismanagement crisis.

My new mentee Sylvia Saru now says “Kaskie Vizuri.” We celebrate our young creatives who appreciate the power of music and the efforts we are making to make music respectable and profitable business.” Said Mutua via a social media while attending Pulse Music Awards.

The embattled CEO has been championing for clean content from Kenyan artists, calling on them to create content that can be consumed by all audience without it being censored.

But it’s the same artist that has got him in trouble due to how their music royalties are shared.
Speaking earlier today at Hot 96 at the Hot 96 FM , Mutua hit back at The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) following claims that Music Copyright Society has shortchanged artists.
The Kenya Copyright Board had suggested that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) digs down to open into MCSK’s activities as well as those of other Collective Management Organisations (CMOs).

He further refuted KECOBO’s claim that artists attached to the organisations deserved 70 per cent of all the monies collected.
Mutua is in trouble for claiming that artists attached to his organization are not in any way entitled to atleast 70% of revenue collections and now states that , artists have been involved in every decision making arrived at .
“We cited the rules of distribution and criteria based on log sheets from licensed broadcasters and the amount of money declared for distribution. But today KECOBO says we should have paid using something they are calling the 70% rule. Where exactly in the Copyright Act or any other law in Kenya does it talk of the 70% rule?” Said Mutua
