The Senate has voted in support of impeachment of Meru Governor from office in a voting session that was held on Wednesday morning following a two days hearing from both parties at the floor of the house.
Meru Deputy Governor Mutuma M’ Ethingia is now set to step in as the 4th Governor of Meru if former governor will not head to court.
On gross violation of constituion and any other laws of the constitution , 26 senators voted yes while 4 voted no, while 14 senators were in absentia.
On count two on gross misconduct 26 senators voted yes, 2 no and 14 didn’t vote.
The Meru Governor had on Monday pleaded not guilty to impeachment charges, after the charges were read to her at the Senate insisting she is not guilty to charges.

On Tuesday, Governor Mwangaza in her defence had appealed to the Senate to thoroughly examine the issues facing Meru, attributing many of the County’s challenges to the political manoeuvring of some local leaders.
Mwangaza who was facing three broad charges; gross violation of the constitution, gross misconduct and abuse of office, had been saved by the Senate twice , in 2022 and 2023 through an 11-member select committee and by plenary respectively.
