In a historic medical breakthrough, Migwani Level 4 Hospital has successfully conducted its first-ever theatre case in over 10 years, marking a monumental moment in the region’s healthcare delivery. Under the passionate and visionary leadership of Medical Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Mwanza, the hospital has ushered in a new era of hope, capacity, and service excellence.

On Wednesday morning, the hospital’s theatre team successfully carried out an emergency cesarean section (CS) on a young mother who had been referred with signs of fetal distress. The outcome? A bouncing baby boy and a glowing testimony of trust in public health. The mother is currently in recovery and reportedly doing well. “Inshallah,” she said joyfully, praising the staff for their swift, life-saving intervention.
For over a decade, expectant mothers in Migwani and surrounding areas have had to endure long, risky journeys to other facilities due to the lack of operational theatre services. That era is now history.

“This is a dream realized,” said Dr. Mwanza in an exclusive interview with Channel 15 Health Reporter. “We’ve worked day and night for the last 18 months to make this theatre functional. Today, we celebrate a huge step forward in restoring dignity and access to quality care for the people of Migwani.”
The surgery was the result of detailed planning and tireless collaboration. The theatre team was spearheaded by Dr. Mwanza himself, with Dr. Kirwa serving as the chief surgeon. Assisting him were nurses Faith Nyambura and Sandra, with Anaesthetist Kioko ensuring patient stability throughout the procedure.

The entire milestone would not have been possible without the strategic leadership of Hospital Administrator Mr. Waita, the steadfast commitment of Nursing Manager Susan Njiiri, and the technical expertise from the Biomedical Department.
Residents, healthcare workers, and local leaders have all hailed this development as a groundbreaking success, setting the pace for more complex surgical interventions to be conducted locally.
Migwani Level 4 is back. Stronger. Equipped. Committed.
