The head of the Catholic church in Kitui Rev. Joseph Mwongela, has today led a vibrant ceremony at Our Lady of Africa Cathedral, commissioning 202 members of the Catholic Men’s Association (CMA) into the St. Joseph Devotion. The annual Diocesan Mass saw the bishop challenge men to become role models in their communities, stressing the importance of faith, transformation, and leadership.

In his homily, Bishop Mwongela reminded the congregation that no one is without flaws, emphasizing that God calls individuals regardless of their imperfections. “God has called us as we are, despite our weaknesses,” he said, urging the faithful to embrace their humanity while striving to grow spiritually.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical figure of St. Matthew, the Bishop encouraged CMA members to embrace their calling. “Like St. Matthew, CMA members should not be defined by past mistakes but by their transformation and dedication to spreading the Gospel,” he emphasized.

Bishop Mwongela further urged the men to see themselves as part of Jesus’ twelve disciples, stressing the need to actively reach out to those lost in sin. “Go and seek out those who have strayed, bring them back to the Church, and help them rediscover what is good,” he stated, highlighting the importance of compassion and mercy in their mission.

He also emphasized the role of men as community leaders, encouraging self-improvement and the pursuit of excellence, even for those without formal education. “Even those who are not educated can raise children who achieve great things,” the bishop remarked.

In addition, Bishop Mwongela called for integrity in leadership, urging those in positions of influence to practice transparency and honesty.

Rev. Fr. Paul Mathenge, the Diocesan CMA Chaplain, praised the men’s commitment to the Church and encouraged them to continue supporting their families and church activities. “Remain strong in faith and continue loving your families,” he urged.

The newly commissioned members expressed their joy at taking this new step in their faith journey. “Being commissioned today fills me with immense joy and a renewed sense of purpose,” said one of the members, pledging to serve God wholeheartedly through the St. Joseph Devotion.

The ceremony was attended by clergy, including the Boma Parish Priest, Deacon Timothy, and Acolyte Joseph Musyoka, alongside family and friends who supported the newly commissioned members.
