Kitui Wiper nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Mbithe Mulinge was injured Monday during Saba Saba demonstrations in Nairobi, in what she described as a confrontation with a “Gen Z goon” who attempted to snatch her phone amid the protests.

In a video shared on her social media accounts, the outspoken MCA revealed a bruised lip and stated, “I was injured trying to resist a Gen Z goon who tried to snatch my phone. Not all in the protest were genuine.”
Mbithe, a staunch Wiper supporter and rising political figure in Kitui County, has been a familiar face at recent Gen Z-led anti-government protests. Known for documenting the demonstrations on her social platforms, the MCA has aligned herself with youth-led causes and party activism, often appearing alongside Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka during press briefings and hospital visits to protest victims.

Her presence on the streets and within party corridors has sparked speculation that she could be eyeing the Kitui Woman Representative seat in the 2027 elections.
“She has remained the only loyal Wiper MCA in the Kitui Assembly who has not bowed to pressure from government operatives trying to woo opposition leaders with development promises,” said a source close to the party.

While today’s Saba Saba protests turned deadly in parts of the country—leaving at least 11 dead and dozens injured—Mbithe’s injury has added a personal dimension to the growing tension between protesters and security forces, as well as the infiltration of criminal elements in otherwise peaceful demonstrations.

Her injury has since sparked reactions online, with supporters applauding her “resilience and courage,” while critics have questioned the wisdom of politicians participating in frontline protests.
The Wiper Party is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
