Who is killing women in Kitui, and why have investigations failed to yield answers?
Fresh fears have gripped Kitui town after the body of a middle-aged woman was discovered behind Marie Garden Hotel, raising the number of women found murdered in the town to four within the past month.
The latest discovery has intensified concerns among residents who say authorities have failed to provide answers despite a series of killings that appear to share troubling similarities.
It remains unclear whether the woman was killed at the scene behind the hotel or whether her body was dumped there after being murdered elsewhere. Police had not released an official statement by the time of publication, and investigations were reportedly underway.
The latest case follows a string of unresolved killings that have shaken Kitui residents.
In late March, the body of a woman who reportedly worked at a local bar was found in the Slaughter area under mysterious circumstances. Days later, another woman was found murdered in Kalundu. Towards the end of April, an elderly woman was killed in Ngiini in another incident that sparked public outrage.

With four women now dead within a month, residents are increasingly questioning whether the killings are linked and why no major breakthrough has been communicated to the public.
Many residents say the apparent pattern of bodies being discovered in different parts of the town has left women living in fear, especially those who move around at night for work or business.
“We are scared. Every week there seems to be another woman killed. We want answers and we want security,” said one resident.
Anger is also growing among members of the public, with some residents threatening to stage demonstrations at Kitui Central Police Station to demand action from security agencies and answers from the area OCS.

The latest killing has renewed scrutiny of security operations in Kitui, with critics questioning whether enough is being done to protect vulnerable residents and solve the murders.
As detectives continue their investigations, many residents say they are losing confidence that the perpetrators will be brought to justice unless authorities step up efforts to crack the cases.
For now, fear continues to spread across Kitui town as families, traders and workers ask the same question:
Who is killing women in Kitui, and why has the trail gone cold?
