Two minors aged 3 and 8 have died after the house they were sleeping in collapsed following heavy rains in Kilungu, Makueni County.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday morning in Kitende area, where the children had been sleeping with their family when the structure caved in. The two died on the spot.

Their mother, who was also in the house at the time, survived the incident.

The tragedy comes as the death toll from rain-related incidents across the country continues to rise.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, more than 100 people have died nationwide due to floods and related disasters since the onset of the heavy rains.

The ongoing downpours have also displaced thousands of families and destroyed homes, particularly in flood-prone areas.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and move to safer areas, warning that continued rains could worsen the situation.
