A dark cloud hangs over Kisumu County this morning following a horrific road accident on the Sondu-Katito Road that has claimed the lives of eight young pupils from Ober Boys Boarding Primary School.

The students, who were eagerly heading home for the April holiday break, met their untimely deaths when the Nissan Matatu they were traveling in was involved in a gruesome crash. Several other pupils sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves across the region. Witnesses at the scene described a heart-wrenching sight, with personal belongings and school bags strewn across the road. Distressed parents, who had anticipated joyful reunions with their children, are now grappling with unimaginable grief.

This tragic event once again highlights the dangers lurking on our roads and the repeated failure to uphold even the most basic traffic rules. Reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles, and blatant disregard for road safety continue to rob families of their loved ones. Despite numerous calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, fatal accidents remain alarmingly frequent, particularly affecting schoolchildren.
