A quiet village in Rachuonyo has been thrown into shock and mourning after a police officer brutally killed his two children and another child belonging to his brother-in-law before turning the gun on himself.

The horrifying incident occurred in Kakdhimu area, after the officer, identified as David Okembe, who was serving at Marsabit Police Station at the time of his death, is said to have poisoned the three minors before committing suicide. The circumstances leading to the heinous act remain unclear, but preliminary reports suggest he had been having family issues.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Korem confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway to establish the full details surrounding the tragedy. “We are piecing together the events that led to this unfortunate incident. It is a deeply disturbing case, and we are working to establish the motive,” Korem said.

Neighbors described Okembe as a reserved man who had not shown any signs of distress prior to the tragedy. “We are still in disbelief. He was always quiet, but we never imagined he was battling something so severe,” said a resident who sought anonymity.

The bodies of the three children and the officer were taken to a local mortuary as families struggle to come to terms with the loss. The tragic event has sparked fresh concerns about mental health among law enforcement officers, with calls for urgent interventions to provide psychological support to security personnel.
