Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has survived a looming impeachment after ODM-aligned MCAs agreed to withdraw their motion following direct intervention by Raila Odinga.
The decision was reached on Tuesday morning at a closed-door meeting convened by the ODM leader at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Lang’ata. This follows days of high-stakes political maneuvering, during which both President William Ruto and Raila separately summoned Nairobi MCAs to avert a showdown.

The impeachment drive had gained massive traction, with over 80 MCAs signing on to remove Sakaja and his deputy Njoroge Muchiri over more than 20 allegations, including incompetence, failure to disburse bursaries, and ignoring Assembly resolutions.
“We have resolved to give dialogue and structured engagement a chance,” an ODM MCA told Channel 15 News after the meeting.

The withdrawal of ODM support effectively collapses the impeachment motion, saving Sakaja from facing a bruising county vote and possible Senate trial. Analysts say the governor must now use this lifeline to repair strained relations with the Assembly and address governance concerns that sparked the revolt.
