Police have launched a manhunt for a matatu driver and conductor accused of being involved in an incident that led to the death of a final-year Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student in Nairobi.
The student, identified as Eugene Mutuku of KMTC Yata Campus, died after he was allegedly pushed from a moving Nicco Movers SACCO bus, registration number KDV 713J, while travelling to his clinical attachment station in Kasarani on Thursday morning.
According to eyewitness accounts, a dispute arose between Mutuku and the conductor over fare payment before the student was allegedly forced out of the moving vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and was later rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed.

Witnesses further claimed that a good Samaritan who came to Mutuku’s aid pursued the matatu to Garden Estate and appealed to the crew to help take the injured student to hospital. However, the crew allegedly declined and indicated they would report the matter to the police.
As investigations intensified, the matatu was reportedly abandoned in Kariokor, Nairobi, with the driver and conductor disappearing before police could apprehend them.
Detectives are now pursuing the crew as part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Mutuku had recently commenced his mandatory clinical attachment, a key requirement before graduating from KMTC later this year.

The incident has sparked public outrage, with Kenyans demanding swift arrests and accountability for those responsible. Many have also raised concerns about passenger safety and the conduct of some public service vehicle operators.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspects to come forward as investigations continue.
