Political Storm Brews as Anzauni Ndene Clan Rejects Akamba Tribe’s GEMA Re-admittance

A fierce political battle is brewing within the Kamba community after the Anzauni Ndene Clan, led by their patron Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, vehemently opposed the decision to re-admit the Akamba Tribe into the GEMA (Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association) alliance.

Flanked by Chairman Philip Musyoka and Secretary General Peter Mulinge, the Anzauni leaders blasted the decision as unilateral and undemocratic. They accused the faction behind the move of ignoring the voices of the 22 clans within the Kamba Tribe, insisting that no consultations were held before the announcement.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, the clan leadership called on Kamba tribesmen to reject the re-admittance into GEMA, labeling it a ploy by a select few political elites pursuing personal interests. “This is nothing more than a selfish agenda by individuals desperate for political mileage,” Dr. Muli remarked, warning against hasty decisions that could fracture the community further.

The controversy erupted after Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, through their respective allies, announced the re-admission of the Akamba Tribe into GEMA on November 27, 2024, during a church service at All Saints Cathedral. Notably, the announcement was made in the absence of both leaders, raising eyebrows and intensifying the backlash.

    “A Political Betrayal“

Critics of the decision argue that aligning the Kamba community with GEMA could sideline legitimate Kamba leadership and undermine the tribe’s distinct cultural and political identity. “We will not allow a few individuals to hijack the destiny of an entire tribe for political expediency,” declared Chairman Philip Musyoka, emphasizing the need for dialogue before any alliances are forged.

The Anzauni leaders are now rallying clans to stand firm against what they perceive as an attempt to manipulate the community. They called for immediate consultations with grassroots leaders, clergy, and other stakeholders to chart a way forward.

    Is Kalonzo Losing His Grip?
This latest standoff could spell trouble for Kalonzo Musyoka’s leadership, as dissenting voices within the community grow louder. With some accusing him of turning to GEMA for political survival ahead of 2027, the Wiper Leader finds himself at the center of a storm that could shake his influence in Ukambani politics.

As the debate rages, questions linger: Is the GEMA re-admittance a masterstroke for unity or a ticking time bomb threatening to divide the Kamba Tribe further? Only time will tell, but for now, the Anzauni Clan has vowed to fight tooth and nail to ensure their voice is heard.
