As the world gears up to commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, 2025, Peter Uplift Charity Foundation is taking the lead in Machakos County by organizing a powerful awareness and empowerment program under this year’s global theme, “Together for a Period Friendly World.” The event will be hosted at Musingini Comprehensive School in Yatta Sub-county, and is expected to bring together students, educators, health experts, and community leaders to break taboos and advance menstrual health education.

First celebrated in 2014, Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global platform initiated by the German-based NGO WASH United, and is observed annually on May 28. It seeks to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management and to advocate for equal access to menstrual products, education, and supportive policies.

The choice of May 28 is symbolic—28 represents the average length of a menstrual cycle, and the fifth month represents the average number of menstruation days.

Building on the success of last year’s event held at Munina Primary School in Matuu, where 503 students participated in mentorship and menstrual health discussions, Peter Uplift Charity Foundation is expanding its reach and impact. In 2025, the foundation will continue to offer interactive learning, mentorship, and advocacy, with a special focus on addressing teenage pregnancies, debunking myths, and empowering both girls and boys to be agents of change in their communities.

This year’s program will also reflect the Foundation’s strengthened partnership with Compassion International, which was formalized during a strategy meeting on March 20, 2025, at Marie Gardens Hotel in Kitui. The partnership will see the rollout of a long-term Mentorship Program aimed at helping students identify their strengths, align them with career paths, and connect with industry professionals for guidance and growth.

“Our mentorship program is built on the belief that success is never achieved in isolation. Through purposeful guidance, we aim to nurture future leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also compassionate and socially responsible,” said the Ceo Peter Musya
The Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 celebration will feature:
Health education workshops led by trained medical personnel.
Mentorship sessions by respected professionals.
Distribution of sanitary kits to students in need.
Panel discussions encouraging both boys and girls to challenge stigma.

By combining health advocacy and mentorship, Peter Uplift Charity Foundation is reaffirming its commitment to building a more inclusive, informed, and empowered generation. As the conversation around menstrual health becomes more open and inclusive, this event is a timely and bold step toward a future where every child, regardless of gender, can thrive in dignity.
