ODM party leader, John Oburu, has revealed that the party has not yet made a decision on whether it will support President William Ruto in the 2027 general election or field its own candidates independently.
Speaking on Tuesday , Oburu said the party is still holding internal consultations following the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025, and that no formal position has been adopted regarding the party’s role in the broad-based government agreement with President Ruto.

“ODM is a collective, and we are carefully weighing our options for 2027,” Oburu stated. “No final decision has been made on whether to support the President’s re-election or pursue our independent path.”
Political analysts say the uncertainty reflects growing debates within the party, with some members reportedly favouring continued participation in the bipartisan pact, while others argue ODM should assert its independent opposition identity ahead of the next election.
The party’s final decision is expected to significantly influence alliances and campaign strategies as the country moves toward the 2027 polls.
