A coalition of Kenya’s smaller political parties has raised alarm over what it terms as a deliberate attempt by the state to silence and deregister them under the guise of regulatory compliance.
Speaking in Naivasha, leaders drawn from several non-parliamentary parties accused the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) of unfairly targeting them while denying access to the Political Parties Fund.

Led by National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr. Augustus Muli, the group warned that the move threatens Kenya’s hard-won multi-party democracy, insisting that all political voices — big or small — deserve protection.
“We need all voices to be heard, and as the small parties alliance, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding multi-party democracy,” said Dr. Muli, who was elected as the spokesperson of the alliance.
The coalition vowed to resist any attempt to deregister non-parliamentary parties, saying the country’s political diversity should not be sacrificed for convenience or control.
